Both Ultrasurf and Freegate have been tested and works fine but I had some problems to surf on youtube using freegate.

If you are a twitter user living in China you may wonder how to follow your timeline and send tweets. This tutorial gives some advice to bypass the Great FireWall.

1. Use a twitter web client :
   hootsuite -  a very complete client that use its own URL shorter.
   netvibes twitter widget - great widget from Netvibes team the only drawback (for the moment) is that it is not possible to unfollow someone.
2. Use a proxy :
   Birdnest is a Twitter API proxy which can filter out the unnecessary information off the Twitter response, you can find some Birnest proxies here.

The main Video On Demand websites are blocked in China, the aim of this post is to explain different ways to access VOD content bypassing the Great Firewall.

1. Using a Webproxy

There are a lot of webproxy but they very rarely allow to watch flash embedded video.
I advice you to use plexiserv which is a fast webproxy working pretty well with youtube (but some issues on dailymotion). To make it work do not forget to uncheck the “no script” option.

If you are in China those days (August 2009) you may have noticed that picasaweb is blocked. There are of course a ton of websites blocked in China, and that’s why I expose here a simple method to bypass GFW censorship and get access to blocked websites.

This method is working on Windows, Linux and Mac. Illustrations are screenshots obtained on pupeee, a linux distribution based on puppy linux and customized for eeePC.

Used tools:

• Firefox
• Foxyproxy a firefox add-on
• Ultrasurf version 9.5 (u95.exe) at the time of this post, consult the blog to know the latest version.
  Ultrasurf (from UltraReach Internet Corporation) is a free and ad-free surfing tool that selects the highest speed anonymous proxy servers to allow you to surf freely.
  An alternative to ultrasurf is to use freegate (more here).
